Will Peter Walsh Fight Against Ted Baillieu’s TAFE Cuts?
National Member for Swan Hill Peter Walsh needs to stand up against his Liberal Party colleagues and fight against his own Government’s savage cuts to the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE in Swan Hill, Shadow Minister for Higher Education and Skills Steve Herbert said today.
Tomorrow the National Party will hold its State Conference in Bendigo.
“The National Party’s State Conference is a chance for Peter Walsh to call on his own party to stand up against the Premier’s cruel funding cuts to Sunraysia Institute of TAFE,” Mr Herbert said.
“Education in Victoria is going backwards under Ted Baillieu and Mr Walsh seems happy to watch on and let it happen.
“Last week’s State Budget was another example of the National Party rolling over for its Liberal Party masters and forgetting the communities they represent.
“Will Mr Walsh stand up for families in his electorate, or would he rather stand shoulder to shoulder with the Liberal Party as they rip millions of dollars from the TAFE sector?”
Mr Herbert said Mr Walsh needed to lobby his Government to ensure no classes would be cut and no jobs would be lost at the Swan Hill campus of the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE.
“Will Mr Walsh join the Minister for Higher Education Peter Hall and speak out against these cuts to TAFE?” he said.
“This Government’s failure to support education services in Swan Hill will impact on those wanting to gain new skills and training, as well as those people looking for work.
“With the National Party State Conference being held on Saturday, Mr Walsh must put the case that regional Victorians are paying the price for Mr Baillieu’s cuts to TAFE.”
