White Ribbon Day

Violence against women and children in the home can and must stop.

This week, as part of White Ribbon Day, I joined other State Labor MPs to take a personal Oath to never “commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women”.

The Baillieu Government promised tough action on community safety but they have been shamefully silent about protecting women and children from violence in their homes.

In the absence of Baillieu Government action, Labor has developed Five Principles for Addressing Family Violence to assist the Baillieu Government develop and fund a comprehensive family violence strategy that addresses prevention as well as enforcement.

I urge Mr Baillieu to put politics aside and use our work to develop a strategy that includes targeted funding for programs to both prevent, and respond better to, family violence.
