Napthine Government Backflips On Wind Farms
The Napthine Government has been forced into a humiliating backflip on wind farms.
After facing two years of community outrage, Planning Minister Matthew Guy finally amended his botched planning scheme that eliminated job-creating wind farm projects.
Revised arrangements allow energy companies holding existing permits to use the latest turbine technology. Unfortunately, new permits will still be heavily curtailed.
Quotes attributable to Mr Tee:
“This decision is two years too late – thousands of jobs have been needlessly lost.”
“The Napthine Government has been a disaster for regional Victoria and has virtually killed the once booming renewables industry.”
“The Liberals and National don’t stand up for jobs, don’t stand up for our environment and don’t stand up for regional Victoria.”
- The Napthine Government in 2012 amended the planning regime to curtail the building of wind farms.
- The planning changes not only curtailed future wind farm developments, but adversely affected existing holders of permits, as the rule changes did not easily allow the use of upgraded turbines.
- In total, some 964 turbines producing 2376 megawatts of energy and creating 100s of jobs, were being held up by the Government’s wind farm changes.
